Countries Summon Swedish Ambassador

After Al-Quran Burning :The condemnations and moves came following a demonstration held on Thursday in Stockholm where protesters kicked and partially damaged a book they said was the Quran

Kabari99-A number of countries, such as Qatar, Iran and Turkey, summoned the Swedish ambassador in their country after the burning of the Koran by an immigrant from Iraq, Salwan Momika, on Thursday 20 july.

Momika launched her action again in front of the Iraqi Embassy in Sweden. Prior to this,

 

 

 

 

 

he had burned the Muslim holy book in front of the Central Mosque in Stockholm.

In response to Momika’s repeated actions, a number of international communities have rushed to criticize Sweden.

Some countries have even summoned the Swedish ambassador in the country.

Qatar

Qatar summoned the Swedish ambassador in the country to protest against insulting the Koran in Stockholm.

“Sweden needs to take all necessary measures to stop this disgraceful act,” the Qatari Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday 21 july, as quoted by Reuters.

Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia also summoned Sweden’s charge d’affaires in Riyadh to protest after the Quran burning incident.

Apart from that, the kingdom condemned Momika’s actions which were considered to be desecrating the holy book.

 

 

 

 

 

Iran

Iran is the next Muslim country to follow in the footsteps of Saudi and Qatar.

“This is to strongly protest against the desecration of the holy book of the Koran,” said the release of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Iran’s foreign ministry summoned Sweden’s ambassador in Tehran on Thursday to “strongly protest against the desecration of the holy Quran”, state media reported.

Demonstrations are planned to be held throughout the country after Friday prayer.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has also written a letter to the United Nations secretary-general over the incident.

Iraq

Iraq meanwhile, asked the Swedish Ambassador in Baghdad to leave the country.

The decision came after hundreds of people gathered around the Swedish Embassy in Baghdad protesting the burning of Muslim holy books.

 

 

 

 

 

Previously, the Iraqi government said it would sever diplomatic relations with Sweden if there was another incident of burning Al-Qurans.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani also recalled his country’s charge d’affaires in Sweden and suspended the working permit of Swedish telecom company Ericsson on Iraqi soil.

Türkiye

The Turkish Foreign Ministry condemned the Quran burning incident as a “disgraceful act.”

They also called on Sweden to “take decisive steps to prevent criminal acts” against Islam.

 

 

 

 

 

Jordan

The Kingdom of Jordan condemned the Quran’s desecration in Stockholm “as a reckless act that fuels hatred,

and a manifestation of Islamophobia that incites violence and insult to religions”, its foreign ministry said on Thursday.

United Arab Emirates (UAE)

The United Arab Emirates summoned the Swedish charges d’affaires to strongly condemn the continuation of the Swedish government’s allowance of attacks on copies of the Quran, the state news agency (WAM) reported on Friday.

Hezbollah in Lebanon

The leader of Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement, Hassan Nasrallah, called on Arab and Muslim countries to follow Iraq’s steps and expel Swedish ambassadors from their countries.

 

 

 

 

 

He also called on demonstrations to be held after Friday prayers, saying that “the whole world must see how we embrace our Quran, and the whole world must see how we protect our Quran with our blood”.
