The speech delivered by King Mohammed VI

to the nation on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of his accession to the throne emphasized the “illustrious” and “firmly rooted in history”

relationship between the Kingdom of Morocco and the State of Palestine.

This was underscored on Sunday evening, July 30, in Ramallah by the Palestinian Prime Minister, Mohammad Shtayyeh.

During a reception by the Moroccan Embassy to Palestine,

Shtayyeh expressed his appreciation for the King, but also for his speech in support of Palestine and the Palestinian people’s legitimate right to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

This position reflects the strong solidarity between the two peoples, their commitment to defending the Arab nation and the different relations deeply rooted in the history that unites Palestine and Morocco.

Shtayyeh stressed that Morocco is an important partner in supporting the Palestinians specifically the city of Jerusalem,

providing them with assistance in facing challenges, which reflects Morocco’s full solidarity with the Holy City and its support for the citizens of Jerusalem.

He then reiterated that there are many joint programs between the two cities.

on behalf of the President of Palestine, Mahmud Abbas, and the Council of Palestinian Ministers,

his congratulations to the people of Morocco on this historic event.

The King’s statement comes amid criticism and doubts around Morocco’s position on the Palestinian cause especially after Israel’s decision to recognize Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara.

Morocco, however, constantly emphasizes its commitment to Palestine and the legitimate rights of Palestinians.

The latest confirmation came in a letter that King Mohammed VI

He sent to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to thank Israel for the decision.

King Mohammed VI said bilateral relations between Morocco and Israel must also function as a means of opening up space to promote peaceful prospects for all people in the region.

The king also recalled Morocco’s determination to contribute to finding a mutually acceptable solution to the Israeli-Palestinian

conflict as discussed in the Tripartite Declaration signed during the re-establishment of relations between the two countries in December 2022.
